FAQs

We understand this is a whole new event concept and if you’re here, we assume you have some questions! We’ll answer as many known questions as possible below. If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to send us an email at info@compilekc.com

 What is Compile KC?

Compile KC is a 3-day event that pairs local Kansas City nonprofits with tech, design and marketing professionals for a weekend of fun and giving back.  In one weekend we aim to give our selected nonprofits a new web site, updates to an existing web site, small online applications, branding, marketing, social media engagement or storytelling and brand awareness.

Nonprofits often do not have the funds to get these types of services, while tech, design and marketing professionals may not volunteer for charity work because the needs are not adequately publicized. We recognized this gap and saw an opportunity to pair both sides together in a single weekend.

Event Schedule

We’ve dedicated an entire page to laying out the schedule of the event. Go check it out!

Volunteers

Is Compile KC only for Developers?

No way! We want developers, designers, business analysts, project managers, SEO experts, branding/marketing experts so we can have a robust team that can work together to makes things happen!

What can I expect if I attend?

We want to make this weekend as fun and inspiring as possible. We’ll take care of all your traditional needs (food, beverages, occasional high-fives) so you can focus on what you do best!

  • Swag for all attendees

  • Food catered throughout the weekend; breakfast, lunch and dinner

  • Beverages available all day/night

  • Closing Ceremony at the end of the event

Do I have to stay the whole time?

We break every night at 12:00 A.M. and regroup at 7:00 A.M.

We understand this is a big commitment. You are not required to stay the entire 7:00 A.M. through 12:00 A.M. open door schedule. However, the more time you can commit, the greater it will improve the experience for you, your fellow teammates and the nonprofits we are helping out. Amazing ideas and great teams fall apart when people don’t show up and the remaining members are left to complete the process. This event is all about donating your time and talent to give back to your local community.

Each participant will be a part of a team for a nonprofit. We expect each of these teams to self manage and communicate when they'll be at the event space.

Will you provide the computers/software?

We do not provide any desktops, laptops or software for the event. You will need to bring your own desktop or laptop to the event. The event space has the infrastructure to support everything else you need including electrical outlets, high-speed WiFi access and plenty of space.

How much does it cost?

This event is FREE! All meals are included. We rely solely on the generosity of our sponsors to make this event possible.

Nonprofits

What are the requirements to participate?

If your organization is a valid 501(c)(3) and is in good standing, you’re more than welcome to submit an application!

We restrict the goals of the event to the following technology/design/marketing needs:

  • Website Development

  • Software Development

  • Print / Graphic Design

  • Social Media

  • SEO

  • Marketing

  • Branding

What is the process of the application?

Each year we will have a limit of the number of nonprofits we can accept, so the earlier you submit your application the better your chances are of being able to participate. We currently have a first come/first serve platform.

After you submit your application you can expect the following:

  • Compile KC will review your application and your needs from the event

  • A member of the Compile KC team will reach out to schedule an initial phone interview

  • The phone interview will discuss your organization, your needs from the event and set priority and scope for the event weekend

  • During or immediately following the phone interview you will be informed if you have been accepted

Do I have to stay the whole time?

We break every night at 12:00 A.M. and regroup at 7:00 A.M.

We understand this is a big commitment. You are not required to stay the entire 7:00 A.M. through 12:00 A.M. open door schedule. We will assign your organization a team and expect each team to self-manage, meaning you and your team will communicate the expectations of attendance through out the event. Your team will need to gather highly detailed requirements to accomplish great things which will require you to attend during that time.

Your team will only be as successful as your availability to answer questions, make decisions and participate in brainstorming sessions. Having to wait on a phone call, email or text message will delay your team.

We do ask that you are available all of Friday night and most of Sunday, especially when the team demos start.
